British Concrete Pumping Group (BCPG)
The BCPG was formerly a small independent trade association called the British Concrete Pumping Association. This amalgamated with the CPA in 1993 and thereafter became a Special Interest Group within the CPA. A steering committee was formed, representing hirers, manufacturers and other interested parties such as the CITB. This committee meets quarterly to discuss issues affecting the industry and to raise standards within the sector.
The group has written a number of publications over the years, including:
‘Concrete Pump Operators' Safety Guide’ (Revised 1997)
’Code of Practice for the Safe Use of Concrete Pumps’ (2004) - updated in 2013 as the: 'Safe Use of Concrete Pumps a CPA Good Practice Guide’
In addition, the Group has worked to develop a British Standard for concrete pumping. In April of 2007, this standard was published as BS 8476:2007 "Code of Practice for the safe use of concrete pumps”.
In 2010 the Group revised the Supplementary Conditions for Concrete Pumping (CPA Terms and Conditions).
There are a number of issues which the group face in the near future, such as regulations on road tax, use of red diesel, vehicle emissions and MOTs.
The group will continue to develop training courses for CITB qualifications and competency cards and safety / environmental issues will be monitored with the aim of improving standards in the sector
