What is CPA Stars of the Future?
CPA Stars of the Future is a new award scheme for trainees in the plant-hire industry, which has been set up by Construction Plant-hire Association (CPA) .
When does it run?
Each year, CPA gives prizes to a number of apprentices who are judged as "Stars of the Future". Apprentices become automatically eligible when they start their course in September of each year. Apprentices will be assessed throughout the academic year on their work in college and in their work environment. The next prize giving will take place on 14th June 2018 with a special event being organised to mark this important occasion. The proposed venue is the Heart of England Conferance Centre, near Coventry.
Who is it for?
Currently, the scheme is for plant mechanic apprentices. There are separate prize schemes for Level 2 and for Level 3 apprentices.
What are the prizes?
For plant mechanic apprentices, the prize for each winning apprentice will be a voucher from a leading supplier of mechanics' tools. A commemorative certificate will also be given.
What do apprentices need to do?
All apprentices are automatically eligible, so there is no requirement to enrol in the scheme. Tutors will be able to provide information about what criteria and personal characteristics the judges will be looking for. Apprentices will be assessed throughout the academic year on their work in college and in their work environment, and the enthusiasm and commitment they bring to learning.
Who runs the scheme?
The scheme is run by CPA, in conjunction with a number of UK colleges offering plant mechanic apprentice training. There are currently 11 colleges who are participating in the scheme.
How many winners?
Each participating college will identify their two "Stars of the Future" according to CPA's criteria (one at level 2, one at level 3). This identifies the semi-finalists from across the country. These apprentices are then assessed to identify the National Winner at each level. Winners and runners-up will receive their prizes and awards at a presentation ceremony at a national trade event.
