New Tower Crane and Hoists TINs
The Tower Crane Interest Group have devised a Technical Information Note (TIN) number 50 that deals with the prevention of objects falling from height, during work at height on tower cranes. The TIN outlines the procedures to be taken to avoid such an occurance including:
- regulatory requirements
- planning and risk assessing
- hierarchy of control measures
- collective and individual measures
- exclusion zone planning
- methods of avoiding falling objects such as tethering.

The Construction Hoist Interest Group have devised a Technical Information Note (TIN) number 302 that conveys the steps needed to be taken in assessing appropriate out-of-service wind speeds for construction hoists in the UK, and applies to all types of construction hoist.
The TIN outlines that when planning the installation of a construction hoist on a site, the planning process must take into account both the in-service and the out-of-service wind speed on the hoist. The out-of-service wind speed will have an effect on both the structure, base and ties of the hoist and thus a bearing on the stability of the hoist.
