Fraudsters - in the Central Scotland area, notice of a dubious company – details below.

Highway Europe Ltd

4 Wesley House

Fourth Street

TeL 0191 432 7664

They visited our offices this morning, in full PPE with business cards, claiming they were contractors on behalf of the Highways Agency, and that they would be working outside our yard between the hours of 12 midnight - 5am tonight. They asked if we needed access to the yard during those hours, and if anyone would be in the office.

We checked with business neighbours on both side of our yard to see if they had the same visit and nobody did. After checking the registration of their car - HO53 PEY Grey Mercedes Benz C Class - the car is not taxed, or registered to the company name they have provided. They are obviously up to no good, and everyone should watch out for them.

Fraudster - Falconer Contracts based in Clydebank.

We received, copy drivers licence and Insurance amongst other items and were able to confirm insurance was held and that this company on the face of it looked legitimate.

An order was placed for a JCB926, a 8 tonne excavator & a 10t dumper for a lengthy hire.  We booked this plant through Jarvie Plant and Mulholland Plant for delivery last week Fri 29th June and on Monday 2nd more plant (a 3T dumper, 250g Fuel Bowser, 9m lighting tower and 2x Mini excavator) was asked to be delivered to site for the  Wednesday.

On Tuesday 10th another plant hire company informed Jarvie Plant that their machine (8t excavator) along had been moved across the other side of the city with the stickers taken off.

We arranged for the excavator removed from site and taken back to the depot

Jarvie had someone attend the original delivery site to see if the rest of the machines were there, nothing was on site apart from the diesel bowser locked behind gates.

We informed Mulholland of a potential theft and they said that their forklift was showing on its tracker as being in an housing estate nearby.  They attended site later that day however the forklift was no longer there.

Mulholland were then alerted by the tracer of the forklift movement to an old locked up waste transfer station. The police and Mulholland attended immediately.

The police gained access they found the forklift from Mulholland and some of the plant from Jarvie on site – we are still awaiting confirmation of what's been located.

Police are investigating other potential sites where the plant may be. Needless to say we are unable to establish any contact with the customer.
